Intensive residential treatment services (IRTS) is a community-based medically monitored level of care for an adult client that uses established rehabilitative principles to promote a client's recovery and to develop and achieve psychiatric stability, personal and emotional adjustment, self-sufficiency, and other skills that help a client transition to a more independent setting.
IRTS are provided by qualified mental health staff on-site 24 hours a day.
IRTS are time-limited, directed to a targeted date of discharge with specific member outcomes.
IRTS are consistent with evidence-based practices.
Austin Manor is an Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) program. It includes time-limited residential services to individuals who are in need of a structured setting. IRTS are designed to develop and enhance psychiatric stability, personal and emotional adjustment, self-sufficiency, and the necessary skills to live in a more independent setting.
The services provided within our program are planned and coordinated with local mental health resources. We provide supportive services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Individuals in the IRTS program may also access and receive services outside our facility for which they are eligible. Hiawatha Hall provides services that prepare residents to move into independent living. Individuals 18 years and older with a mental illness or with other challenges engage in activities that encourage the growth of skills necessary for healthy, self-sufficient lives.
Since 1982, Hiawatha Hall has provided services that prepare residents to move into independent living. Individuals 18 years and older with a mental illness or with other challenges engage in activities that encourage the growth of skills necessary for healthy, self-sufficient lives. Participants learn vital life skills and techniques for coping with their own unique challenges with the help of group therapy, social skills training, medication monitoring, vocational services, social & recreational activities, and aftercare planning. With the use of the integrated dual diagnosis care, illness management and recovery practices, participants are able to enjoy healthy, happy lives.
- Features a Staffed Residential Facility, including on-site nursing 24 hours a week and psychiatry consults.
- Coordination with Psychiatric and other medical professionals.
- Incorporates individual care planning.
- The average participant’s stay is 90 days.
Safe Harbour is a 12-bed Intensive Residential Treatment (IRT) program for adults in need of behavioral health and support services. The focus of this program is to help people with a mental or chemical illness avoid hospitalizations or promote continued stabilization following a hospitalization.
Staff utilizes evidence-based practices — illness management and recovery, integrated dual disorder treatment, therapy, psychiatry, counseling, etc. — to help residents create their treatment plan and chart a path for recovery.
The residential program provides a variety of classes to assist residents in their recovery efforts, including:
- Family psychoeducation skills
- Coping skills
- Problem solving
- Daily living skills
- Healthy choices for managing life stresses
South Central Human Relations Center views residential treatment programs as part of a continuum of care, with the goal to return participants to their family and community. The Safe Harbour staff strives to provide a highly structured, well-supervised, nurturing and consistent treatment environment that meets the needs of each participant while respecting each individual’s strengths, preferences and rights.
Residents may receive treatment in a residential program for up to 90 days, though the average stay is about 45 days.

For those who qualify through SERCC’s crisis assessment, we offer short-term stays in our on-site Crisis Residential facility. With 16 private rooms (including private bathrooms), the facility has separate units for adults and youth, and includes daily programming and education through Rochester Schools. Stays are voluntary, families can visit, and individuals may leave the premises by request. Individuals must be able to care for themselves independently. SERCC does not provide 1:1 assistance for hygiene and mobility needs. Individuals may stay for up to 10-days.
Ages: 10-18 for the youth unit, 18+ for adult unit
